14 October - CLUB NIGHTS

Please remember that CLUB NIGHT begins this Wednesday 17th October 2018.
As we have opened club night up to the greater community to try and boost our current numbers, I would like to see as many QLSC members as possible attend.

The first night will be more of a fun come and try night and I would like to use our current strong swimmers to give examples, assist with littlies in the 25m races etc.

We will also looking for ADULT volunteers to assist with BBQ duties and Timekeeping.

I'm Excited and looking forward to seeing the Program our lovely Race Secretary Mel has put together for us to enjoy !

See you there.

17 September - Change to training

Due to the high attendance number for the Burley Griffin meet this weekend, there will be NO TRAINING this coming Saturday 22 September 2018.

7 September

As part of our away meet program, the club has an opportunity to travel as a team to Forbes for a Long Course meet.

We are proposing to take a team of swimmers to the annual Forbes Swim Meet on the weekend of 24 and 25 November.  We will be leaving Canberra on Saturday morning (the meet starts towards lunch time on Saturday), attending the swim meet before staying overnight as a team in Forbes, and then racing on Sunday at the second day of the meet before travelling home to Canberra leaving Forbes no later than 3pm.  This will ensure we are home by 6.30pm on Sunday evening.

At this stage we intend to hire self drive buses.  We will be sending a couple of adults as Team Managers to this event and the coach, Mr Les Barclay will be attending also.  This is a similar trip to the away meet that Telopea did to Temora earlier this year.

We are seeking expressions of interest to gauge the number of people interested in attending so we can organise the bus and accommodation.  Whilst the cost of the trip is not know at this time, we will try to keep costs to a minimum.  For now, we are keen to know if your swimmer is interested in attending with no commitment to attend at this stage.

If parents and family members wish to attend this meet, they are most welcome but they will need to arrange their own travel and accommodation to and from Forbes. The swimmers will be travelling and staying as a team for this event.

7 September - Change to training

Please note during the upcoming school holidays there will be a change to afternoon squad sessions for one week only.

Week of Monday 8th October to 11th October there will be no afternoon training held in Queanbeyan.

During this week children are invited to attend the annual swim squad skills camp at Canberra Girls Grammar pool, there is NO EXTRA COST to attend and this is open for all levels.

Please rsvp to Debbie McIntosh with your child's name and squad they attend if you would like to take part, by the end of next week. A rough estimate of attendees is required to ensure there are sufficient coaching staff on deck.

If your child would like to enter meets, but you aren’t sure how it works please do not hesitate to have a chat with the coaches or contact a committee member for further assistance.

We held our September general meeting last night and from that I have a few exciting announcements to make to all members listed below :

Jan will be back on deck from Thursday  6 September.

For new members Jan is a longstanding highly valued coach of QLSC who has been off recovering from an Injury.

Please join me in welcoming Jan back. Jan has been truly missed.

Summer Season training timetable –

The outdoor pool opens back up Monday 15th October and training will move back outside. This is a little over a month away!

Summer season timetable will be sent out once finalised.

Club Nights 2018 /19 –

I am very excited to announce that we will be opening Club nights up to the public this year, as a seasonal sport.

This will see our numbers increase on club nights. We hope these swimmers will hopefully filter into our squads.

Club nights will now be held weekly not fortnightly, more information will become available soon.

Mel, our race Secretary has been working hard on a plan to help bring this together.

Advertisements will be in school newsletters and through Queanbeyan Swim schools.

If you know of anyone that may be interested in joining Club night and would like more information please do not hesitate to pass on the below details:

Twilight Meet –

Our Annual Twilight meet will be held Friday 30th November / Saturday 1st December 2018.

This meet is usually held in February around the same time as the school swimming carnivals, Please save this new date and we hope to see as many QLSC swimmers entered as possible.

This is another major fundraiser for our club and will require a lot of hands on deck to ensure it's success.

Over the years we have seen people travel long distances to attend our meet that is held late evening hence being called the twilight meet!

 Kind Regards

Deb McIntosh
